Rambo (2008)
7.0/10
John Rambo is inspired by a romantic interest to enter enemy territory and engage in the war in Burma.
It's Rambo so I was surprised. No that I've seen any other Rambo in recent times but I expected the same from it as I got from Rocky Balboa. It was actually a good film though. Of course the gratuitous violence was pumped up to suit the desensitised vesslels that we are. Regardless, the action was fast, the explosions were shot brilliantly and there was something somewhere along the line that I may have interpreted as an emotional journey. It's Rambo though, so I can't be sure if I was just susceptible to sythetic emotions or if it really hit a chord.
The opening scenes are real footage of the carnage of Burma and it sat a little strange to then show a reprisentation of that destruction as entertainment. I suppose we're not here to make moral judgements while sitting in front of Rambo! Perhaps they were using the vehicle of Rambo to raise awareness, that's a nice thought, rather than using devastating footage to inspire more emotion and acceptance of Rambo's primal carnage fest. We'll leave it alone for now.
The movie was classic edge of your seat with all the right Rambo oneliners.
Watch it.
