Christopher McCandless throws off the shackles of the material world, donates his life savings to Oxfam and becomes Super Tramp. It really is an epic journey about freedom, restraint and abandon.
For me this film was incredible on all fronts. The story was engaging from the credits. The ideas it outlined inspired feelings which have been inspired before but it went further, it took the journey. The pain, the sacrifice, the nonchalance and fierce engagement. The cinematography was moving, the landscapes were something of America I'd never seen before. The sound track by Eddie Vedder was as close to perfect as his sound track for Dead Man Walking. Sean Penn nailed the direction as each scene and character felt full and real.
Top work, top film, one of my favourites in the last year.
